Around the Table

Warm up your stackers’ hands and minds while stacking around the table.

Review The 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 (10 Minutes)

Have students sit in their color teams in a circle or stand around a table. Students demonstrate these patterns and peer assess their accuracy in following the rules of sport stacking. Teacher circulates around the groups giving instruction to students who are new to the sport. Refer to K-2 Lesson Plans as needed for instruction.

Grade Level Progressions for Sport Stacking: 3-3-3 and 3-6-3

Grade Level Description
3-4 Completes the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 with a continuous, circular motion when upstacking and downstacking with confidence and competence.
5+ Completes the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 with confidence and competence developing his/her own style that also follows the rules of sport stacking.

Grade Level Not Yet Getting There Got It Wow
3-4 Student uses 1 hand when upstacking and/or downstacking and may make errors in the pattern or sequence. Student consistently uses two hands when upstacking and downstacking each stack. 6-stacks do not follow 3-2-1 method. Completes the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 with a continuous, circular motion when upstacking and downstacking with confidence and competence. Completes the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 with a continuous motion and downstacks only the last 3 stack with one hand. Can explain rules for individual stacking and judge another student accurately.
5+ Student demonstrates a basic understanding of the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 but often makes pattern or sequence errors. Student consistently uses two hands when upstacking and downstacking each stack. Stacking lacks fluidity Completes the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 with confidence and competence developing his/her own style that also follows the rules of sport stacking. Student can explain advanced rules such as hands on 2 stacks and how to properly fix fumbles
