Instant Cardio Activity (5-10 Minutes)

Lesson activities are meant to offer movement and reinforce sport stacking techniques. Depending on available time, these can be repeated or combined. Use the suggested activities below or choose from the complete Cardio Activity list

The 5-5-5

Focus on good technique and smooth transitions.

Competition Stations (30 Minutes)

Divide the class into their 6 teams and then pair 2 teams to visit each station together. Teams will take turns acting as the competitors and the judges.

Station #1: Individual Timing

Students choose one stack they will use to compete. Their judge will be from the other team. Each stacker gets 2 warm ups and then three official attempts at their stack. Their judge records their three times on the timing sheet. After one team has completed their stacking, teams switch roles.

Station #2: Doubles

Each team divides into pairs for doubles. One team competes while the other team judges. Each doubles team gets 2 warm ups and then three official attempts at a stack of their choice.

Station #3: Head to Head Relay Races

Combine two color teams to race each other in the 3-6-3 Head to Head Relay. Two teams on one table with one set of Speed Stacks and 1 Stackmat for each team. The lead competitor for each team starts at the table, while the other 4-5 members wait behind a start line, 7’ back, to be tagged. The lead competitor starts the timer and the last competitor ends the timer. Teams race best of 3. After each race, teams switch sides.

Modifications:

  • Instead of HTH Relays, have teams completed the Timed 3-6-3 Relay.
  • Compete on the floor instead of tables.
  • Give students more warm up time.
  • Allow students who are nervous about competing to judge.
  • Provide alternative assessment opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of sport stacking as a sport.
